Investing in Global Change, Building the Future

Alex is an Investment Manager and leads Future Planet Capital’s impact efforts. With a background in research, most recently with the University of Cambridge’s Keynes Fund, exploring instances of market failure, mispricing and incentive systems within VC, Alex is driving Future Planet Capital’s formalisation of impact for investment decisions, internal operations and portfolio management.

Previously, Alex spent time at the Open Data Institute, creating and embedding the groups Impact Framework, successfully bidding for key government contracts and co-authoring the company’s five-year strategy.

He looks to bring this deep impact knowledge to investments, on both the Blue Ocean Fund and Global Growth Fund, as part of the Origination Team. Additionally, Alex heads up ESG at Future Planet, as well as co-authoring Future Planet Capital’s impact reports, with Advisory Board Member, Lord Wei of Shoreditch. Alex holds a first-class degree from Exeter in Liberal Arts, majoring in Economics.

Ed is an Investment Director at Future Planet Capital where he manages the Blue Ocean fund and sits on the Investment Committees for flagship Future Planet Capital funds and the UK Innovation and Science Seed Fund. He is a Director at Captura, and has led investments into companies including NeoVac, Queen of Raw, Vaarst/RovCo., Aria Pharmaceuticals, Navenio and Vaccitech (NASDAQ) the Oxford spin-out behind the COVID-19 vaccine with 3 billion doses now made available worldwide.

As part of the founding team at Future Planet Capital, he helped grow the firm from a $20M experiment fund to over $400m in committed capital today. He has led investments for a number of strategies, including a Pandemic response micro-fund with Barclays, followed by an ocean focussed fund for the government of Monaco. He also developed Future Planet Capital’s partnership with Seedrs to become the first VC firm to democratise investment into its management company.

Ed has previously been a Venture Fellow and Scout for a leading US deeptech accelerator and the UK’s most active seed investor. Before Future Planet Capital he spent time researching molecular genetics at Hong Kong University and received a 1st (Hons) in Biological Sciences at Bristol University, where he was President of Bristol Think and joint first for the Liv Sidse Jansen Prize for his work into the impact of Climate Change on marine ecosystems.

Lyle Pentith joined Future Planet Capital in 2018 and is the Global Growth strategy, Portfolio Manager, overseeing the Flagship Fund, RT Funds and numerous co-investment vehicles.

He is the liaison for Barclays Private Bank, its investors, relationship managers and global advisors. Lyle also manages the Challenge-Response thematic baskets in partnership with Barclays. He played a central role in executing Future Planet Capital’s capital raise and group roll-up strategy as part of the group expansion.

With an affinity for solutions and utility for many years, Lyle has held a keen interest in innovation and a deep-rooted belief that technology is the key to addressing global challenges. He has experience in the defence sector, having worked for a large US contractor and served in the British Army Reserves.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Lyle seeks challenges in outdoor activities like running, hiking, and biking. His outdoor adventures span mountain ranges across Africa, America, Nepal, and Afghanistan.

Lyle holds a BA (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Queens University Belfast and has passed the Venture Capital Executive Programme at UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business.

Peter Mitchell is a Director at Future Planet, who leads on Data Science and Technology within the firm. With a keen eye for innovation, Peter has developed a novel data system that analyzes over 500,000 data points to identify companies in the pipeline that are most likely to build profitable solutions to the world’s greatest challenges. He also serves on the Blue Ocean Mandate’s investment committee and oversees relations with Future Planet’s key venture managers worldwide.

Peter’s background is in academia, where he worked on large scale statistical research to help solve complex issues. He worked on projects for the UK Cabinet Office, the OECD and the Department for Education, where he used advanced modelling to offer guidance on topics such as the achievement gaps between students in English schools and the most effective approaches to teaching mathematics. He maintains strong ties with the academic community and teaches termly master classes at the University of Oxford on how to code and conduct quantitative analysis for PhD students and post-doctoral researchers.

Peter has also worked with innovative firms within the EdTech space. These include Emerge Education, a prominent Edtech fund in the UK, where he wrote code to identify promising early-stage companies, and TeacherTapp, a venture backed start-up that remains the leading source of data on teacher experience in England.

He holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, which he completed on a full scholarship from the prestigious All Souls College, and a master’s degree from Harvard University.
